Shopping With The Sister - Embrace the Man! (Not What You Think...)

Funny story for today's post... Yesterday, my sister and I went on a shopping expedition. She had some gift cards from Christmas, and I, being her devoted shopping buddy, decided to go with. After stopping by Victoria's Secret  *hello semi-annual sale!* we headed over to American Eagle, in search for the perfect warm sweater to wear with leggings and boots.
We usually both love the selection of clothing at American Eagle. The store has combined comfy cozy materials with earthy tones to create clothing that is eye-catching and comfy. Because we shop there often, we figured they would have the *perfect* sweater. Wrong. Apparently we didn't receive the memo because it seemed like, although the patterns and colors were adorable, all the sweaters were cropped sweaters and were made of this funky knit pattern that was extremely holey and required a tank top underneath. Usually I don't mind wearing a camisole, but sometimes you have those  lazy days and all you want are legging, comfy socks and a sweater.
Feeling frustrated we headed back to the Cafe Court and pondered our situation over lunch. Before I tell you any more, let me tell you about my older sister, LB. She is working on receiving her Masters in Speech & Language Pathology, so she is full of ideas and is never afraid to try something new. Lucky for us, LB had the grand idea of shopping in the men's section of American Eagle. After all, men don't show off their bellies in public, men don't need to wear extra layers under their shirts. Good idea, right? We went back, hopeful for a comfy sweater.
I know most ladies won't consider shopping in the men's section, maybe because its 'improper' or 'embarrassing,' but there is strength in numbers, and LB and I were on the hunt. First off, men's clothing is warmer. The shirts cover everything, and still come in cute patterns. Their stuff was obviously bigger, but it doesn't matter because LB and I aren't into the whole 'skin-tight' thing either. To tell the truth, we had tons more fun on the boy side than the girl side. It seems like when clothes shopping on the girls side, all the girls are moody and rude, and nobody talks to each other! It would seem that when putting together a bunch of girls in a shopping filled environment, there would be conversation flowing easily from customer to customer. Nope!
Yet on the men's side, the customers are willing to strike up a conversation. Maybe men in general are friendlier than women, but to those two nice guys we talked to about that sweater jacket, thanks! Lets just say LB and I had major success in the men's section. The store was having great after Christmas sales, so we left satisfied.
LB bought a royal blue, long sleeved tee, a beige sweatshirt and we both got matching, colorful plaid shirts. Pictures to come in a fashion haul, and I'll see ya soon!

I've Moved! (Kind of...)

Hey pretties!
Short post today, just wanted to inform that I created a new blog, Campus Darling. Campus Darling focuses on my personal life, not so much the fashion, made up side of me. I will still try to update Campus Beauty, but right now I'm so excited about Campus Darling, who knows how that will go. Like I mentioned, shorter post today, but I'd love it if you guys checked out the new one!

Where I've Been

Hey everyone!
Wow, it's been forever since I last posted, more than a month! Last time I wrote on here, I was getting my wisdom teeth out... That was not fun. But I'm back and ready to make up for last time!! I already have several DIY projects up my sleeve and posts about delicious foods and makeup tips and my favorite fall outfits! So stay tuned!
Anyways, I've been incredibly busy with college and planning for my future, which leads me to some Amazing news!! Originally, I was planning on staying at the community college I'm currently attending for two years, and transferring to a four year university with my Associates, but that has changed for the better! Honestly, I was never happy at the community college. The only reason I was attending was because A Plus was paying for it, and free is always good. But by attending a community college, I realized that I was missing out on so many different opportunities that students at four year university's have. Opportunities like clubs and organizations, a challenging learning environment and in general, living away from home and making my own place in the world.
Don't misread this, community college's are a great way transfer from high school to college. They are a great opportunity to save money on college tuition and to prep yourself for your career or another college. I know hundreds of people are satisfied with the education and experience received from attending a community college, but I was personally looking for a little more in my college career, so I am transferring next fall to a university here in Missouri. Because of privacy issues, I won't release the name or location, only that it's located here in Missouri.
Now because of that decision, to transfer a year early, I have been extremely busy in choosing my major, I was undecided, but I've chosen Business Administration & Management, a field I'm excited to dive into. I've also been looking over housing options, (to dorm or not to dorm??) making sure all of my classes will transfer correctly, and planning for my life away from home. The transfer process is quite a bit more involved and complicated than I ever could have imagined, but I know it'll be worth it, even though it has taken me away from my writing.
I'll be back on Monday with some storage options *sneak peek* so I'll see you later. Bye!!

Common Girl TAG

Helloooooo!
This Tag has been floating around on YouTube for awhile now and since I won't be able to post a Fashion Friday tomorrow (My wisdom teeth are being extracted, ouch!) I wanted to give my viewers something extra to read.
Originally called the 'Common White Girl TAG,' I edited it to read 'Common Girl TAG.' I think that no matter your skin color, this is a super fun tag and all girls should be able to participate, not just Caucasian. That being said, let's get started!

1. Favorite Starbucks drink?
I know this sounds absolute crazy and I'm probably breaking the rules of the tag, but I have never been to Starbucks, nor do I ever plan to. First off, I don't have the money for a $5 drink. My apologies, but when I can buy a whole meal for that amount, I'm not gonna spend it on a drink. Secondly, we don't even have one where I live. Instead, I like to visit this little drive-up coffee shop on my way to school. It's literally right on the way, fast, delicious and affordable. Typically I order some sort of frappe, usually Birthday Cake.
2.  How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Typically it'll take me an hour for me to get ready and leave. I wake up at 7 and am leaving by 8. These are the days where I straighten my hair, rub on some BB Cream, swipe on mascara, pack my lunch/backpack and take off. If I'm actually trying to look good though, it takes me anywhere from an hour to two.
3. How many selfies do you take on a daily basis?
Absolutely zero. I'm not a big picture person, I'm a big writer.
4. How many Instagram followers do you have and how many pictures?
Maybe I'm not your typical girl, but I don't have an Instagram. I just don't see the point. Take pictures of yourself for the whole world to see? Yeah, you're funny.
5. Do you ever say 'LOL' of 'OMG' out loud?
Honestly people? No.
6. Do you wear the same clothing item more than once?
Yes, I'll admit, I do. Personally I don't understand why I wouldn't. Spend money on something, only to wear it once? In a week, I know I'll repeat my shorts or jeans maybe once, but I don't wear the same shirt or dress a lot. I like to mix it up and wear everything in my closet, not just the same stuff.
7. Are you racist?
No.
8. How many tweets do you have?
Okay, I am a little embarrassed about this number, but it's only small because I got Twitter a couple months ago and I'm not on it too often. 168.
9. Instagram, Twitter or Tumblr?
I don't like Instagram, don't even know what Tumblr is, okay, I vaguely do, but I don't have an account. So Twitter!!
10. What do you spend most of your time doing?
Working my two jobs and going to school or doing homework. I don't see how people have time for a whole lot more. I barely manage to write, much less see my friends or just chill.
11. Who are your favorite youtubers?
I have several actually. MissGlamorazziBeautybaby44OrganizedlikejenLindseystomp, and EleventhGorgeous.
12. How often do you do your nails?
Not that often. I'm always playing outside with the little sister or gardening or doing construction with my dad (we are in the process of building a guest bedroom) so I haven't done them in awhile.
13. Are you a shopaholic?
I do love shopping, but I wouldn't take it that far. I don't have the chance to go shopping that often, so when I do I but a TON of stuff, but I do love shopping.
14. How many times have you watched mean girls?
I don't even know how many. I just know I better be wearing pink when I do.
15. Do you own a lot of clothes?
What is your definition of a lot? My closet is full but my it may seem small to you. Or it might seem huge and stuffed. I think it all depends on your definition of 'a lot.' I don't really think so. There is always room!
16. Do you take pictures of your food before you eat it?
Sometimes. I'm gonna be honest, if food is beautiful and I paid good money for it, you bet that I'm gonna take a picture and save it.
17. Do you wear makeup everyday?
No. It's kind of a 'whenever I feel like it' thing, especially during school.
18. What are your average grades in school?
In high school, I averaged A's and B's, but I've set a goal to get all A's in college.
19. How do you usually style your hair?
I almost always straighten my hair. I have super thick hair and the only easy way to make it look presentable (not wavy and homeless) is to straighten it. I shower at night and style it in the mornings. I don't know why, but that has always been my routine. In the mornings I prep my hair with the TRESemme heat protectant spray and than I straighten away!
20. Do you always look presentable?
Kind of. At school? Of course I do. All my clothes match and I look put together. At home? Psh, I lounge around in basketball shorts and a tank-top. Not saying that isn't presentable, but when I wear it, it isn't.

That is the Common Girl TAG! Hope you guys enjoyed it and I'll see you sometime next week!

Sassafras Moon World Gifts

Hey everyone!
I have some big news... I got a second job! Receiving this job was a huge blessing and I'm so thankful. As many of you know, I already work at the Library in town, but because of my school schedule I only work there on weekends. I was looking for a M - W - F job; flexible hours, people I enjoy working with, close to home. Sassafras Moon is about 3 miles away from my house and I've always wanted to work there, so I scheduled an interview and was hired on the spot! I wanted to write today's post about Sassafras because not only did I get a job there, but I wanted to share with you what it is like working in a retail store and what Sassafras has to offer.
I started last Friday and love it already; how could I not? My bosses, Kay & Sally, are two of the sweetest people I've ever met. These sisters opened the store in 2008 and have done a fantastic job running it, as well as their online web site. The best way I can describe them? Forgetful, artistic, very creative and very scatterbrained. As this is my first time working as a sales associate, I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked through those glass doors. But Sally reassured me that while working at a store like Sassafras isn't hard, there are a lot of things to keep track of and keep organized, both of which I'm very good at. I'm excited to continue working there and learn my way around.
Sassafras is a very individual store, selling handmade items from across the world. We participate in Fair Trade; a global network that allows people in 3rd world countries, mainly women, to sell handmade goods in order to support themselves and their families. The items are all handmade and come from everywhere; India, Pakistan, Nepal, Peru and Chile are a couple examples. There are different organizations that sell these crafts, and Sassafras only buys from the companies that provide fair labor conditions, as well as environmental sustainability and community development.
While Sassafras Moon sells Fair Trade items, we also create hundreds of items in our studio. The ladies at Sassafras are nicknamed the 'Glass Ladies' as they create things from glass. For example, Kay makes stained glass windows from recycled glass. She cuts and shapes the glass, all by hand, than fits it and fires it, making a beautiful window or garden centerpiece. Her sister, Sally, makes glass jewelry, which I had the honor of helping with yesterday. Necklaces, earrings and bracelets (all made from beautiful stained glass) are displayed and sold in the store.
If you're in the area I encourage you to stop by the store and take a look at all that Sassafras has to offer!
Have a lovely day and remember... You are gorgeous!

The Campus Alphabet

For this back to school post, I am sharing the College ABC's with you. For each letter of the alphabet I used something that is important and/or necessary for a successful college student. Some are healthy foods, some are makeup tricks, others are school supplies, and some I just think are necessary, having experienced college myself.
A - Apples! No irony here ladies! Apples are the perfect in between class snack. They increase your water intake, help stop cravings for fatty foods and are delicious!
B - Binders! Each class has a binder with a folder and notebook inside. I use 1 inch binders, simply because they hold more and don't overflow.
C - Containers! Whether you buy yours from The Container StoreTarget or Dollar General, containers are a great way to keep your life organized. Containers are a major aspect in my life; they organize my makeup, my important papers, my winter clothes, my shoes, my everything.
D - Dictionary! I use a Websters Dictionary but feel free to use a different one. Dictionary's are required for most Composition classes and are handy when working on homework.
E - Erasers! Erasers, not much to say about them, but they are necessary, unless you are fond of scribbling over your work.
F - Frozen Yogurt! A good replacement for ice cream and just as yummy! Typically I go to somewhere like Red Mango or Orange Leaf, but I also saw this pin on Pinterest about frozen yogurt drops. I'm interested in trying them, so maybe I'll do a DIY Monday post about it!
G - Gum! Freshens your breath between classes when you don't have time to brush your teeth and helps stops your belly from doing that awkward grumble during class.
H - Hooks! Some dorm rooms don't allow actual nails to be driven into the walls which prevents you from hanging that cute decor, but these hooks that Walmart has are the perfect solution.
I - Ibuprofen! Headache from studying? Sore muscles from working out? Wisdom teeth coming in (mine are)? Ibuprofen solves all these things. Just use your senses and read the side effects and serving size.
J - Judgement. Specifically, good judgement. Can we be honest here? College can be full of temptations - some good and some bad. During the college experience, it is important to keep a good mindset and judgement.
K - Keep. As you start/go off to college, remember to keep your old friendships, as well as make new ones. Go out for a girls night with your pals back home once in awhile.
L - Laptop. Laptops are great for taking notes and working on homework, and also accessing your online courses. Plus, if your home life gets too busy and you need a place to work, laptops are portable. I like taking mine to the library and working in silence.
M - Mascara! Honestly ladies, do I have to explain this? Mascara has so many benefits, including making it look like you didn't just roll out of bed for that 9 o'clock class. Keep a tube in your pencil case and reapply between classes.
N - Nutella! I love this tasty hazelnut dip as a snack. You can buy mini dipping containers that come with pretzels and eat them when you need some chocolate. But the thing is, it's not exactly chocolate. Nutella is made mostly from crushed hazelnuts and cocoa powder, and hazelnuts are super healthy. So Nutella is like healthy chocolate!
O - Open mind. Personally, I think having an open mind in college is an important key to success. An open mind helps you to not judge and to think clearly.
P - Pop-tarts! Quick, easy, delicious and filling. Not your healthiest option, but hey. We can't be perfect all the time.
Q - Q-tips! These little fuzzies are awesome! Clean your ears, remove eye make-up and touch up your manicure.
R - Relax. College is stressful so don't let it overtake you. Make sure, in between your busy days and your weekends, that you have ME time. You know, curl up in a chair with a good book and some sweet tea. Or take a hot bath with some candles and lavender oil. And remember to breathe. You will do great in this next step of your life.
S - Sweaters! Okay, so sweaters are awesome. I can think of numerous times when I have dressed them up, with a cute camisole, skinny jeans and a nice necklace, and yet I also slouch around in them 90% of time. In the wintertime I pair them with leggings and boots for that comfy casual look.
T - Textbooks! Expensive and overrated yet completely necessary. And since you spent hundreds of dollars on bound paper, the least you can do is study from them.
U - Uggs! Perfect for wintertime. Pair them with leggings or jeans for an uber comfortable look. And please see letter S.
V - Venustas. A Latin word meaning 'attractive, beauty, charm, loveliness, grace, attractiveness, prettiness.' In all that you do, remember that you are attractive. On the inside and out. No matter how stressed you are, no matter if someone spilled chocolate milk all over your white v-neck right before class (this happened to me yesterday), you are beautiful.
W - White Eyeliner! White eyeliner has so many tips and tricks that most girls don't know. 1) Apply to the bottom waterline and around the tear duct to make your eyes look brighter. This also helps you look more awake. 2) A lot of times I want my eye-shadow to look brighter, especially with the more colorful shades. To solve this problem, apply white eyeliner to your whole lid, than apply your shadow. This makes the color pop and stay on longer. 3) Apply under your eyebrow and blend to make your brow's look arched. 4) If you are like me and still battling acne, apply white eyeliner to the red spot than cover with concealer. The white corrects the red and creates perfect coverage with concealer.
X - I couldn't find anything that begins with X, so ex this one off your list.
Y - Yoga. An exercise that stretches the muscles and helps relax your body and mindset. I love yoga because not only does it feel amazing, it takes my mind off anything that has been bothering me. Plus, it is extremely healthy and good for your body.
Z - Zip lock bags! Can I just say that 'Z' was pretty hard. I was coming up with zippers and zinnias and zucchinis. But than I remembered. Zip lock bags! These things are sooo handy! They hold my snacks and sandwiches for lunch, they hold my toiletries when I travel and remember those yogurt drops I linked under F? The lady who made them used a zip lock bag to squeeze the yogurt out of. See? Genius!

I hope you guys enjoyed my campus alphabet and I'll see you on Friday for Fashion Friday!
Stay beautiful :)

Fashion Friday - State Fair Souvenirs

Hello!
Looks like I'm officially home from an awesome trip and I have so much to share with you! Camping was a blast... Sort of. Sleeping on an air mattress is no fun and community showers are a drag but it was worth it to experience all the amazing things the fair has to offer. My favorite things about the fair? Easy. Number 1 is, of course, the atmosphere of it all. If you have never been to your state fair or a festival of any sort, I encourage you to go check it out. There is an abundance of shows, delicious food, friendly people and interesting booths to check out. Number 2 is the food. A little word of advice, when going to a fair or festival, throw your diet out the window for the day. It is worth it. Besides, I doubt the Weight Watchers diet includes fried pickles and funnel cake;) And 3 is all the shopping. See, state fairs exhibit booths from everywhere selling everything. From the genuine leather purse and wallet booths to vendors displaying handmade jewelry; from the racks of the signature MO State Fair t-shirts to the silk summertime dresses fluttering in the breeze, anybody can walk away with a shopping bag in hand and a smile on the face.
Down below are my souvenirs from the fair!

One of the first places I went to was a purse booth set up across from the MO-Ag Theatre. I have been looking for a crossbody purse that brought out my wild, fun side and in a rack on the right I found it! This bag was $35, a great price for what it is. On the front side, it has different patches of colorful leather and 2 front pockets. Then on the back, it has the brand emblem decorating the top and cheetah print on the bottom. This bag has the main pocket, a pocket on the back and 2 on the front. Plus, if you can see on the left picture, there is a zipper that goes all around the edge of the bag. Unzip that zipper, and the bag's capacity expands by about 2 inches. I thought this was a really cute bag that would match with anything, plus it holds quite a bit for being on the smaller side.

On Monday, I was browsing through the commercial tent, also across from the MO-Ag Theatre, when I noticed these gorgeous, handmade bracelets in a little kiosk. The man told me that these bracelets are made by women in Nepal, who sell them to make money. They were $5.99 apiece and came in different designs and colors. The three I purchased are lavender/plum, aqua/silver/white and silver/charcoal colored. These bracelets are great. They are super durable and waterproof, plus they fit everybody. They aren't necessarily stretchy; about the only way to wear them is to roll them up your hand and onto your wrist, but they are super comfortable and can be worn with anything.
The last thing I bought was this San Francisco 49ers t-shirt for CH's 19th birthday. He picked it out and I bought it for him.
This sports booth was also in the Commercial tent. If you are interested in anything I bought I once again encourage you to go check out your own state fair and have an amazing time doing so!
Happy Fashion Friday!

School Series #2 - Packing Tutorial

Hey all!
Today I will be writing a packing tutorial. I got the inspiration to write this when I was invited to go camping for 5 days with CH and his family at the Missouri State fair, and I figured a packing post could be helpful for those of you moving off to college in a few weeks. I am using a pretty big suitcase and plan on filling it all up. CH said I should pack a warm weather outfit and a cold weather outfit for each day, which puts me at packing quite a bit more than I might need, but at least I'll be prepared for anything.
Above is everything that will be going inside the suitcase. Starting from the upper left and moving down and to the right, I have a big pink towel, 2 smaller white bath towels (they are rolled), an old sweatshirt (also rolled, you will see why), my belt, blow dryer, flat iron, 3 cosmetic bags, another belt, sheets for my air mattress, pink sweatpants, tennis shoes, 2 pairs of flip flops, 2 pairs of comfy, basketball shorts, leggings, 3 lace tank-tops (also rolled) 8 t-shirts and 3 v-necks in a stack, 3 jeans and 2 shorts in a stack, and all my undergarments. I know, sounds like a lot, but I promise, it all fits!
The first thing I did was to pack all of my undergarments in the netted part, than layer in my flat iron, leggings, belt and flip flops on the bottom of the bag. A really great thing about these suitcases is that at the bottom, there are little grooves that hold flat stuff well. And when you are done filling the grooes, you have a nice flat surface to begin layering your clothing.

As you can see above, I put my pants stack and my shirts stack on the right side of the suitcase (this is a sideways picture so you could see how I folded and stacked my clothes). Also, I still have another inch on top of the clothing in case I bring home any souvenirs.
This picture shows the left side of my suitcase. I altered how my flip flops were laying so there was more room between the bars, than filled that space with 2 rolled basketball shorts, a rolled camisole, and my folded sweatpants. Remember, by filling the grooves at the bottom, you are simply creating a flat surface and not taking up any of the suitcase.
Next, I took my rolled towels, sheets and sweatshirt and squeezed them into the left half of the suitcase. I rolled my towels and sweatshirt instead of folding and stacking because when you fold thicker items they take up more space. Also, rolling provides all sorts of nooks and crannies to stuff smaller items, like belts, hair dryers and cosmetic bags. Speaking of cosmetic bags...

TA-DA!!! Aren't these adorable? These 3 matching cosmetic bags are at Dollar General for only $5, a great deal. They are apricot and navy striped and come in 3 sizes. In the large, I have everything I need for my face washing routine. The medium holds make-up and the small one holds hair ties, bobby pins and jaw clips. I put these bags along with my blow dyer, belt and gray camisole in the grooves between the towels.

Lastly, I layer my pink beach towel and a black fleece jacket (its supposed to be chilly and rainy the whole time). On the right you can see my finished suitcase. There are two more pockets on the front of the suitcase. In the smaller pocket I have some boot socks, and in the larger pocket I have my tennis shoes, more flip flops and a throw blanket.
I really hope this packing tutorial was helpful and you learned some interesting tips and tricks. Wherever you go with your packed suitcase, I hope you have a fabulous time! Thanks for reading!

Fashion Friday - July Favorites

Sorry for not posting my July Favs until August 2nd... Is it just me or has this week been super busy? Work, babysitting, freshman orientation - but hey, its Friday! Now we can chill back and relax. Just kidding, this weekend looks crammed also :( Anyways, shall we get started?
Hair Products

During July I have been using more and more of my TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray, along with the matching Shampoo and Conditioner. Rarely do I find a brand of hair care product that I can use consistently. It always seems that after a couple weeks of using the same product, my hair becomes invincible and the products no longer work; than I have to switch. And switch again. But using this TRESemme combo my hair has never felt better. It is soft and silky and I have less split ends than ever.
Makeup

My favorite foundation, as always, is my bareMinerals Matte face powder. If you haven't ever used bareMinerals products before or don't know where to buy them, I got mine from Ulta and they are some of the best face products out there. This little jar was $30 but it still remains my most trusted product. I talk more about this product here. My only other makeup favorite for the month was this Maybelline Color Tattoo in the shade Bad to the Bronze that I bought at Dollar General. These Color Tattoo's are my favorite base/eyeshadow, simply for the reason that they go on easy and stay on. I also talk more about the Color Tatto's here in my Beginner Makeup Post. (The reason I only have 2 makeup favorite products is because the bareMinerals powder is something I've used A LOT during July, and the color tattoo is a new product that I think everyone would enjoy).
Accesory
This bag I bought awhile ago at old Navy but I have especially been loving this month. Super colorful, ginormous and isn't too bulky, this is a bag that I've been using so much. Whenever I go to a friend's house I pack everything I need in this. I also chose this as my accessory because the colors are so bright and fun - perfect for July.
Song
Does anyone else know of the New Zealand singer, Hayley Westenra? Lately, I have been listening to a lot of classical music on Pandora and her song 'May It Be' came up. For those of you who don't know, Hayley was blessed with a gentle, slightly operatic soprano voice that is perfect for her gentle compositions. I encourage you to check her out and listen to her song 'May It Be' here.

We have come to the end of my July Favorites.... And almost summer too:( I hope you guys check out all the product I mentioned, especially the link to Hayley Westenra as her voice is incredible. That's all I have for today. Remember to stay beautiful and have a superb day!

School Series - Freshman Orientation

Today I looked at my calendar and almost cried. August 1st!! Where did this summer go? And than I remembered! On August 1st people start thinking and planning for school - and so do I! August 1st marks the kickoff for my school series; the gist of what this blog was meant to be. During the school year I will be posting mostly school related posts; obviously. I will still post Fashion Friday's and DIY Monday's, but don't be surprised if most of it still relates to school. I have tons of ideas, tips, advice and cute outfits to share with you during this school year, so lets get started!
Today I am talking all about Freshman Orientation; mine is tomorrow, so I thought I would share the outfit I plan on wearing, my makeup routine and what to expect during this event.
The outfit I plan on wearing (I will change if it's raining) are these neon pink shorts from Old Navy, a white chiffon blouse from Vanity with a simple white tanktop underneath, my sparkly flats from Payless, a silver feather necklace and a chunky silver bracelet.

I always straighten my hair in the morning, so to protect it I use my TRESemme Heat Protector. This stuff is amazing. I've had it for awhile and it works great. Even though I use heat tools on my hair every day my hair is still healthy. To finish my hair I spray my Straight Sexy Hair Spray and start on my face.
I have always had problems with acne but once I started using this St. Ives Apricot Acne Scrub my face is in a lot better shape. My skin isn't perfect but it is on the road. Then, I moisturize with my Velocity Apricot Moisturizer.
Tomorrow I am going for the 'barely there' makeup look - plain and simple and quick to apply. I start off with my Maybelline Dream BB cream (which isn't pictured here, sorry!) and cover up my eye circles and highlight my cheekbones with my Maybelline Dream Lumi Highlighter. Than I conceal any major red spots with my CoverGirl stick concealer. After concealing and highlighting I apply my bareMinerals powder and start on eyeshadow. Going on my lids first is my Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo in the shade Bad to the Bronze. Pictured here is my 10033 Traditional LA. Color's eyeshadow pallet. I really like this pallet because it has a lot of earthy tones and a couple lighter pinks, which are perfect for that effortless makeup look. I'm not sure which colors I plan on using tomorrow but they are all in this pallet. Than I line my top lid with my Maybelline Precise Eyeliner and wing it out a little. Can we just say that this eye liner is simply fabulous? The tip is a very thin marker tip and it goes on so smooth and perfect. This is my go to, non smudge-able, perfect black liner that I use daily. I brush on my Great Lash Mascara, apply my Baby Lips chapstick in cherry and my look is finished!

Lately I have been using this cross body bag by Guess and because it doesn't hold a lot, I'm just bringing my EOS lip balm, wallet, phone and some of the makeup products used in case I need to touch up my look. And because it is Freshman Orientation, I am bringing a notebook and pen to take notes.

According to a letter I received from my college, "Orientation Day will cover the following topics. The basics, what it's like to be a college student, advising, placement, registration, security, parking permits and ID's, financial aid, technology and payment information." Obviously this is my first Orientation so I'm a little nervous but pretty excited at the same time. Parents were invited but mine work Friday's and can't attend so I will be going alone. However, this does give me the opportunity to come out of my shell and make some new friends:)
I hope this post helped give you some ideas for your outfit and makeup look for Freshman Orientation so I'll see you there! Have a great day and stay beautiful!

DIY Monday - School Supplies + Customized Binder Covers

Hello!
As you probably know, I am a girl who loves color, and that always applies to my school supplies. It may seem childish, but I like to buy color coordinated binders, folders and notebooks, along with a colorful array of pencils, pens and highlighters. And I always do my shopping at Dollar General - I feel like Walmart is way too big and spread out and I can never find anything. Dollar General is a smallish store with good service so my shopping is always 20 minutes or less. I went shopping for school supplies Thursday before work and found some pretty great deals.
I decided on a theme of 5 colors this year - navy, purple, pink, green and teal.
Up above is all the school supplies I bought for this semester. I decided on 1 inch binders this year because I ran out of room in the 1/2 inch binders during high school so I upgraded. Binders at Dollar General were $2 apiece and I bought 4; 1 for each class. Inside the binders I put folders and notebooks and mixed and matched the colors as you can see above. I also bought sticky notes, 3x5 index cards, pens and pencils, a pencil carrying case, a pink planer, a Texas Instruments calculator and a pink lunchbox - total was $32.50. If you look at the binder in the upper right corner you will see that my navy binder has a binder cover. Every year I insert binder covers that I make or print off into the front of my binder to spruce it up a little. This year I printed of these adorable monogrammed binder covers from the blog For Chic Sake under the tab Printables.
The one at the top left of the first picture is a teal/coral combination, and these two shown are gray/pink and navy/teal, with my initials in the middle. I outlined the letters on the left with a thin black sharpie which made the letters pop and look really elegant. These fit perfectly into the front of a binder and add a little pop of color to the otherwise boring binder. Remember to check out For Chic Sake for lots of DIY, organizing and crafty ideas. Bye!
Happy DIY Monday!!

Fashion Friday - Quality Newbie Makeup

Hello beautiful world!!
Today I wanted to shared with you good quality makeup for the makeup newbie, such as myself. Most of my makeup is affordable and bought from Ulta or Dollar General, both of which I will link below. When I began wearing makeup, back in May, I didn't have a lot of expertise in the makeup purchasing field, nor did I have a lot of money to spend at the time. Mainly, I was looking for makeup that I could practice with, as well as tide me over to the time when I saved up the money to buy better quality products. Luckily my sister took me to Ulta where we found beginner makeup kits produced by Ulta.  The one I bought came in a snakeskin box and was $17.
As you can tell, this is the kit fully opened up. The kit came with 8 eye shadow/blush pallets, a snakeskin makeup pouch, 3 tinted lip glosses and 3 brushes. I will say, this is a good kit for a beginner and did a good job tiding me over, but now that I know the difference between cheap and quality makeup, I will tell you that if 1 was cheap and 10 was quality, this box was a 6. The eye shadow's were really bad about flaking off the eyelid and the brushes shed black hairs all over your face. However, the pencil eyeliners (in the colors black, brown, majesty and peacock) go on smoothly and last all day. Plus, who can resist the cute makeup clutch?
Anywho, after I saved up and practiced with the makeup in this box I branched out to affordable yet quality eye shadow, eyeliner and foundation.
These 2 products are BB Creams by L'Oreal and Mabelline. I really like BB Creams because they dim all the redness in my face, plus these 2 tubes were $5 apiece. They go on like a tinted sunscreen and feel very lightweight on my face. Typically, I wear these whenever I'll be outside and always as a base for foundation.
The foundation I use is bareMinerals Matte Face Powder in the shade Fairly Light. A lot of ladies I know use this foundation and swear by it. My sister has used it for 3 years and still loves it! This is by far the most expensive product I own - $30 for this, but I haven't even made a dent in it. It sweeps on my face really light and natural looking and even though it's pricey I would definitely recommend it. Its very easy to apply and doesn't come off, no matter how many times you touch your face.
For concealer my mom purchased the Dual Action Concealer by Merle Norman (on top) in the shade light and gave it to me and I love this stuff. I apply dots of this all over my face, concentrating on my problem areas and Bingo! My face is a blank canvas! This concealer completely covers any acne or redness or freckles and goes on light and airy. My only problem with this concealer is that the shade 'light' is a bit to light for my face. My face looks like Casper the Ghost while the rest of my body looks normal, so I plan on using this in the wintertime when I'm rocking the pale look all over.
The second product shown (on the bottom) is my Maybelline Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealer - $3 at Walmart. I mainly use this to cover up my eye circles and highlight the tops of my cheekbones. I wear the shade 'Nude Chair' and apply this every time I do my makeup.
Recently on a trip to Walmart I picked up 2 Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadow's in the shade's Inked in Pink (top right) and Buff & Tuff (top left). I didn't know how much I would like these but I've heard some pretty good reviews on them and decided to give them a try. Surprisingly I really like them. They are a creme shadow and can be applied using your finger or brush (I prefer using my ring finger). I also bought 2 Maybelline Eyestudio pallets in the shades Electric Emerald and Taupe Temptress. I have noticed that Maybelline products are really good quality for a cheap price, so that's why I bought these. The colors are very rich and vibrant for only $4 bucks apiece! I think both of these products are perfect for everyone because they go on so easily and are both cheap and chic; two characteristics hard to find in products.

I know some people use 6 or 7 different mascaras, according to the occasion, but I have faithfully used two. The first is the trustworthy Great Lash. My mom got me hooked on this when I was having clumping trouble with my old mascara (which now resides in the trash). The Great Lash mascara thickens and lengthens lashes, all while not clumping, and is only $4! You can buy Great Lash at almost every store that sells beauty products so if you do see this snatch it up! My second mascara is Maybelline the Rocket that I use mainly on my bottom lashes to give them a little extra boost. This was $7, but to be honest I don't know why it was so pricey... hmm...
These 2 LA Colors Jumbo Eye Pencils, in white and blue, I bought for $1 apiece at Dollar General. The white is good for highlighting the corner of your eye and I thought the blue was super fun, although I'm not sure when I'll wear it. On top is a Covergirl Liquid Line Blast Smokey Eye pencil. A black pencil on one end and a smudger on the opposite end, this pencil is really good for smudging your bottom lash line and for lining your water line.
As for storing my makeup I purchased 2, three drawer plastic containers from Dollar General for $2. I know they aren't the cutest storage option available but they are the cheapest; plus you can see all of your makeup!
I think that's it for today's Fashion Friday! I hope this post helped give you some ideas on cute, affordable makeup and I'll see you next time. Bye!!

50 Facts About Me TAG

Hey...
Today I wanted to do something a little more personal than my other posts, so today you are going to learn 50 Random Facts About ME! Not all of these are makeup or fashion or DIY related, so let's get started!
1. When I was 7 years old I used to say "When I grow up I want to be a lady in a circus covered with tattoos." Yeah... I think its safe to say that my goals in life have drastically changed since than.
2. Also when I was 7 years old my favorite color was orange.
3. I have been with CH for almost two years.
4. I am 6'1.
5. I love all baby animals except for kittens.
6. I didn't start wearing makeup until late May of this year. I used to believe that I was prettier without makeup; I was worried that makeup might cover me up. Now I understand that makeup hides my blemishes and reveals my better qualities. Plus I didn't even know how to apply it, so a big shout-out to my older sister and mom for teaching me and getting me hooked!
7. I try to buy most of my beauty products from Ulta. The service there is exceptional and they have everything.
8. My favorite colors are pink, purple and blue. In that order.
9. I didn't get my license until I was 17 because I was scared of driving.
l0. I love pillow pets.

13. I can spread my toes really far apart. I know, really weird trait but it's a random fact.

15. I can read upwards of 700 words a minute.
16. I LOVE reading! I have a bookcase filled with books and stacks of books surrounding my bed and my dad is building me a bookcase headboard for my bed so I can have my storage.

DIY Monday - Renovating

Hello!!
It has been awhile since I posted a DIY Monday just for the fact that I have had almost no motivation to get crafty, but the opportunity for a post came up this weekend when my dad and I started the process of remodeling our back porch. I know this isn't your normal DIY project but I think it counts since we could have hired a crew but instead we did it ourselves.
My parents goal for the back porch was to tear off the roof and walls and transform it into 2 sections. The first section on the right side of the house is going to be a guest bedroom/office, and the section on the left is going to be a mudroom with plenty of storage options. Now before I tell you of the process we went through to tear it down, I should probably tell you about the porch. Our back porch was pretty interesting. It had a plain cement floor and a leaky roof, and the walls consisted of cement blocks on the bottom and windows on the top. It sounds like a lot but it only took the weekend to tear it off, which was really nice.
Dad and I started the tear down process Saturday morning at 8 o'clock, and by that evening the roof and windowed walls were gone. Sunday afternoon my dad chiseled down the cement blocks and today my little sister and I were given the grand job of carting the blocks to the dumpster we rented.
It was a pretty big job and we only got halfway through (now we get to build!) but I'm impressed with the amount of work we accomplished in the weekend. In the picture below you can see our patio and the concrete floor of the back porch, as well as that HUGE chimney that we have to dismantle (hehe, dismantle... chimney's have mantels... okay, lame joke) and the rest of the cement wreckage behind the hot tub. The porch walls ran even with the chimney and than a step down is our patio that will most likely stay there.
As you can probably tell, the back of our house looks kinda awkward and misplaced but it will be fixed soon. Hopefully. Below is our porch in a dumpster! Yay!
Before I end this post I want to share with you the safety do's and dont's that I learned this weekend!
1. ALWAYS wear safety glasses - even though I didn't doesn't mean you shouldn't.
2. WEAR sturdy leather gloves - dad and I were dealing with nails, old rotted wood and cement blocks so make sure you protect your hands!
3. DON'T step on nails sticking up from boards - I was wearing my old Puma tennis shoes and they are not sturdy in a construction sight because I accidentally stepped on 3 nails that were sticking up. By some small miracle they went through my shoes but missed my feet all 3 times. This leads to my fourth piece of advice.
4. ALWAYS wear sturdy shoes! Those old tennis shoes look protective but nails and shards of glass and brick slide right through the soles and attack your feet!! Protect the feet!
5. ALWAYS drink lots of water - It was about 85 and humid here in MO but dad and I took a water break every 45 minutes to stay hydrated.
6. Remember, you may be working hard and every bone on your body hurts and you are covered in dirt and you stepped on nails, but try to keep the mood light between you and your fellow workers - dad and I constantly joked around and made names for ourselves. For example, he was 'He Man!' a.k.a. he who has muscles and can tear down everything and anything, therefore making me look like a weakling (I am, but still.) And dad called me 'She-ra! Queen of the Amazon People!' a.k.a. she who tries hard but always relies on 'He-Man.' We might have sounded silly but the joking and laughing did help pass the time.
That's all I have to say about this awkward DIY Monday; I'll try to come up with something a little more crafty next time.
Have a great DIY Monday!

Fashion Friday - Colors of the Rainbow Tag

Hello and Happy Fashion Friday!
Okay, so the trend going around on YouTube by fashion gurus are videos with fashion related tags. For example, 'Outfits of the Week' 'Colors of the Rainbow' and '50 Facts About Me.' Well, today I am going to try the Colors of the Rainbow Tag. I plan on displaying clothing that I have been loving this summer in the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, multi-colored, black and white.
The first item, red, is a cranberry colored lace dress I bought at Vanity.
I actually bought this dress a couple months ago on a shopping spree with my sister but I have worn it a couple times this summer and I love it. The dress is strapless lace and looks really good with boots. I recently wore it to a graduation and paired it with my brown, Tony Llama cowboy boots from Angells Western Wear.
The next item, orange, actually came in this morning when I went to pick-up my mail.
This shirt is also from Vanity and I purchased it online along with another of red, white and blue. The original prices of these were $37.50, but they were on clearance for $20 each, plus I had a 50% off coupon. My total purchase was around $23 plus shipping which I think is a great deal. These shirts are tunic style plaid cotton and are super comfy. They have a high-low hem, cuffed sleeves and 2 breast pockets. Because I am a country girl and go to cattle shows with CH, I am always looking for lightweight plaid shirts, so I was pretty excited to find these.
The next shirt is a yellow ombre tank top.
I bought this at Kohl's awhile ago but I wear it all the time in the summer. I forgot how much it was, but this shirt is sheer with a light yellow feather pattern near the hem. It is button-up with beading around the top and looks great with a simple pair of dark wash jean shorts.
Next is a lime-green workout top from Dicks Sporting Goods.

Okay, so my mom bought this shirt so I could go running on the road and people would see me. At first I didn't like it because honestly it looks like an ugly man tank-top, but I did wear it when I ran the other day and all of my suspicions about it are gone. This shirt is longer in the torso so it doesn't ride up, but it is also pretty roomy and sweat-proof. This shirt was on the clearance rack (yay!!) for $15. Normally, $15 doesn't seem like a good clearance price, but I think it was more because it is made by the brand Champion. So thanks mom!

This next shirt I bought back in April but I've worn it more in the summer than I ever did in spring. Again, this shirt is from Vanity for $20. I bought this because I think the color is so pretty and it has a cool triangle cut-out in the back. I had also been looking for chiffon shirts since they are so lightweight but classy. Because I liked this one, I actually went back and bought the same on in a pretty ivory color. Typically, I wear shirts like this to work or dressy dinner dates, courtesy of CH. Tuesday I went in for work and I wore this with dark jean shorts, a grey sparkly camisole and sparkly flats.
This next shirt is a purple crop top with 'live, love, dream' on the front in animal print words. I think my mom bought this for me for Christmas last year  and I just wear it with a gray camisole underneath. I know this looks childish on an 18 year old, but I think its fun so I wear it anyways:)

I bought this shirt in San Antonio on a choir trip at Forever 21; we don't have a Forever 21 where I live so my friends and I spent most of a day there. I bought this shirt for $4 because I liked how different it is from anything I have in m closet. This is a fushia, circle crop top with a detailed back you can see above. I actually wear this with some cutoffs over my bikini when I go to the pool or beach. This one is also on the 'fun' side of my closet (just kidding, I don't organize my clothing that way...) but I love it.
This next shirt is a multi-colored, off the shoulder top from Texas. My mom also got this for me on one of her business trips at a place that sold lightweight cotton tops. This shirt reminds me of the 80's because of the funky neon stripes and off the shoulder-ness. I wore this the other night when CH and I were watching a movie with my folks. I think I just paired it with a pair of jean shorts and my neon socks because I was feeling kinda lazy:P
I know that belts aren't considered clothing but lately I have worn this to a lot of fairs and cattle shows with my boots so I thought I would share it. Now, sparkles are my favorite color so this belt and I have a lot in common. The belt buckle is smothered in rhinestones and the the black leather has giant diamond rhinestones framed by rhinestone rectangles. I just wear this with boots, old jeans (you get dirty at cattle shows) and a t-shirt. I bought this belt at Angells  for $50, but it's expensive because of the leather it's made from.
r
This last item representing white is one of many staple pieces in my closet. A simple white v-neck from PINK for $15 that I can pair with anything. I especially love it for summer because it is sheer so I like to wear a cute bandeau from Vanity underneath and pair it with neon pink shorts from Old Navy and flip flops or flats.
I hope you guys enjoyed my first Colors of the Rainbow Tag and I will make sure to link all the shops mentioned! Happy Fashion Friday!!

Workout Wednesday - Canceling Workout Wednesday

:(
Why did I post a frown face you might ask?
Because due to some changes in my personal opinion I will no longer be posting a Workout Wednesday. To be truthful, I don't think I will miss posting Workout Wednesday. A couple days ago I discovered that working out is not one of my passions, it is a duty I perform to stay healthy. And believe me, you can do something every single day for about an hour without loving it. I do it. Its called jogging up and down the road in 90 degree heat.
And this may sound bad, but I prefer to organize. Or experiment with makeup. Or play my violin. Or clean. So, because I have promised this blog (and myself) to always write about things that I am truly in love with I will have to cancel Workout Wednesday's because I'm sorry, I'm just not in love with running up and down the road, no matter how cute of shoes I have.
To replace my Wednesday posts, I will post sometime between Tuesday and Thursday about everything and anything mentioned above.
So Happy Not Workout Wednesday!

Fashion Friday - Necklaces

Hello beautiful people!
If it weren't for the holidays, visiting with family and finalizing school plans for this fall semester I would have posted a wee bit sooner but being as busy as I have cuts the blogging time down to zip. However, this afternoon I found a few empty hours in which to post my Fashion Friday and I told myself I'm posting and nothing is getting in my way!! So yayy!! Here I am!!
For this Fashion Friday I am talking about my long necklaces and how I store and wear them.

I store my long necklaces on this brass key I bought at Icing. It has 9 hooks and if you need more hanging options I've found that you can hang necklaces from the key's teeth (I'm hanging my bling tassel from graduation) or from the curlicues in the heart.  Icing did sell other shapes but I love this key because it is very romantic and girly and that totally matches the theme in my bedroom. Oh, and sorry for the random white spots everywhere... I am in the middle of redecorating my bedroom and repainting the walls to a light purple is at the top of my list.
I took a zoomed in picture of the necklaces, just so you can see them better when I talk about them.

Okay, starting from the left I have my graduation tassel with a sparkly 13 on it and although I didn't have enough hooks I hung it from the teeth of the key.
The next necklace is a big circle covered in Swarovski Crystals that my grandma got me for Christmas. I honestly have no idea where she got it, but thanks grandma!! I wore it for prom so it is pretty dressy and I don't wear it that often, but it's gorgeous and I wanted to display it.
You can't really see the 2nd necklace, but it is 9 silver strands with silver spheres. It is a layered necklace and pretty dressy, so usually I don't wear it, but I like the way it looks hanging up.
I absolutely adore the 3rd necklace. My older sister bought it for me at Vanity a couple years ago and I honestly wear this thing all the time. This necklace is one strand of fake pearls and one silver chain. The silver chain has a giant sparkly bow on it that I think is so adorable. I don't know why, but I wear this in the wintertime a lot with a silver sweater, leggings and boots. I think it's kind of casual but super, super, super adorable.
The 4th necklace is a long, gorgeous turquoise statement necklace I bought a few months ago at Maurice's. It was a little more than I'm comfortable spending on a necklace, about $15, but I have worn it so many times that it was worth it. I strongly suggest that if you don't own a statement necklace, go out and buy one pronto. You will always get compliments, plus they are super versatile. I wore this the other day with a cream chiffon top from Vanity, dark skinny jeans from American Eagle and silver sparkly flats from Shoe Carnival.
The 5th necklace on my key is a necklace that I haven't found an opportunity to wear yet. This is one strand burnished silver chain with rhinestone covered musical instruments. My other grandma got this for me last Christmas (what is it with grandmas and buying fashionable jewelry??) and it totally brings out my musical side, even hanging on the wall.
The 6th necklace is a simple gold strand with different colored rocks and beads. I bought this one also at Vanity for $2 and when I looked at it, I thought 'fun.' This necklace was so bright and colorful and unlike anything I already owned and I just fell in love with it. I guess you could say it is my fun, slightly childish necklace.
The next necklace is also pretty simple. This is 1 strand of silver chain with laser-cut feathers, circles and leaves. Bought at JC Penney, this is probably my go-to necklace as I'm headed out the door and need a quick accessory. Yesterday as I was headed for my shift at the Library, I paired it with a black scoop-neck, neon pink shorts and black flats.
The 8th necklace I bought at JC Penney and wore for my Junior Court warming (a semi-formal dance) and paired it with a black, Grecian style dress. It is a tear-drop shaped pendant with black flower designs in the middle, black spheres on the chain and black beading hanging down from the pendant. I really loved this necklace, but I was really sad the other day when I noticed that one of the gems on the fringe popped from its setting so although I can't wear it anymore, I still love it to pieces.
The last necklace is 2 gold strands purchased from JC Penney. The first strand has evenly spaced gold spheres, and the second strand has these flattened gold discs. Typically, I wear this if I want to dress up a white V-neck for work or even if I want to look a little dressy for school I will pair it with a crimson scoop-neck.
So, that is the end of my hanging necklace collection! I hope you guys enjoyed it! Down below I linked all of the stores where the necklaces were bought so you can go shopping for your own!
Happy Fashion Friday!

Workout Wednesday - Running Shoes

Running is great workout to incorporate into your day to day schedule, but before you start training for that 5K or even going for a jog down the road, it's important to treat your feet right by purchasing the best running shoes. Although quality running shoes can be expensive, they are worth the money because no matter what you have to treat your feet right. With a good pair of running shoes you don't have to worry about blisters, sore feet or twisting an ankle.
Personally, I switch between 2 different pairs because although they each have their positive and negative traits, they balance each other out. My original pair of running shoes I used was made by Adidas and purchased from MC Sports.
I really like this pair and probably just for the fact that they provide amazing support for my weak ankles. Whenever I wear this pair my ankles don't hurt at all, even if I run day after day. However, I wouldn't recommend these to people who have flat feet. I think this pair was made for people who have an arched foot because I have a slightly flat foot and if I run to long they tend to become uncomfortable; which is why I purchased my second pair of shoes.
Now, this pair is my absolute favorite pair of shoes, even though they provide little ankle support. These Nike Free Runs, purchased at Dicks Sporting Goods, are my go to shoes. I use them for running, working at the library, shopping, school - you name it and I will most likely be wearing these raspberry colored shoes. These are my first pair of Nike's and I absolutely love them. They have a thin sole, which is preferable for running shoes so your leg muscles can form properly, and the longer you wear them, the more they mold to your foot. These are also lightweight and breathable; not to mention they are super adorable and come in hundreds of customizable colors:)
I will link MC Sports and Dick's Sporting Goods below if you are interested in looking at running shoes yourself.
Happy Workout Wednesday!
