True Beauty: Lupita Nyong'o

Quick post for today.
I saw this on Fathit and had to share. I may talk about makeup and fashion, but I never forget that true beauty comes from the inside, and Lupita is the perfect example.

I only hope that everyone listens to her words and strives to be beautiful not only on the outside but also on the inside

My Makeup Story Tag

Hey everybody! As always, thanks for stopping by my blog and reading what I have to say; it really means a lot! For today's post, I got my inspiration from watching YouTube videos, as always. I've been watching Emily Eddingtonl recently. She is so adorable, and very creative, plus she includes both drugstore and high-end products in her videos, and I really appreciate that as I'm slowly liking high end products more and more. Anywho, I watched her My Makeup Story Tag and she invited anyone to try the tag. So Emily, thanks for the tag, and here we go!
1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I actually began wearing makeup last May, so I was 18 years old. Me and my late bloomer problems 2. How did you get into makeup?
Back in high school I was always in school plays and musicals, and the performers and on stage chorus had to be in heavy stage makeup so the lights wouldn't wash us out. Add in any special occasions and prom, and my mom and older sister could have been my personal makeup stylists. They were always pushing me to learn how to wear makeup, but I absolutely refused to learn how. I guess I was always afraid that if I started wearing makeup and covered up all my blemishes, imperfections and flaws, I would cover up who I really am on the inside. I was scared that I would start hiding behind my makeup; I was waiting for the time when I was 100% confident bare faced before I started wearing makeup. Last May-ish, that time came and I decided I was confident enough with my naked face, all my freckles and acne scars, to start wearing makeup. My sister took me shopping for the basics, and ever since I have been in love. What are some of your favorite brands?
3. How long have you been wearing makeup?
Since I've been wearing makeup less than a year I stick to drugstore products, with the one exception of my Naked palette that I recently purchased. That being said, MaybellineL'Oreal and Wet 'n Wild are just a few of the many brands I use
                                                   4. What does makeup mean to you?
Makeup is expressing who you are; very similar to your individual fashion sense, but more personal. Makeup gives us the power to transform and become a different person, if only for a night. When a lady wears makeup, she has the ability to cover up her flaws or things that make her uncomfortable but she can also bring out those features that she wants to show off. I also think makeup is a fun hobby, or even a job for some people. I think anybody can enjoy makeup, and it's one of many things that connect us.
5. If you could only wear 4 products for the rest of your life what would they be?
This one is easy for me. Given all my options, I would choose foundation, eyeshadow, mascara and tinted lip balm. My foundation acts as a primer and concealer, so I would always have a concealed face. I love playing up my eyes, so eyeshadow is a must. Mascara defines the whole look and brings even more attention to my eyes, which are my favorite feature, and I have to have lip balm, especially in the winter.
6. What is your favorite thing about makeup?
My favorite thing about makeup is the fact that I can do anything with it. I can create hundreds of different looks, I think it's fun to use, plus I love to collect it.
7. What do you think about drugstore vs. high end makeup?
I think there are drugstore products with better quality than high end products and vice versa. However, it seems like people buy high end products just for the name. Like would someone actually buy the ridiculously expensive Benefit box blushes if they didn't have the name 'Benefit' on them?
8. Do you have one tip of advice you can give to a beginner?
Don't get caught up in the idea of makeup. Don't overwhelm yourself. I know when I first started wearing makeup I was also watching the beauty guru's on Youtube  and they had so much makeup! Drawers and bins and baskets filled with different products, so that was really intimidating, but I learned to take it slow and not focus to much on it... At first.
9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?
Colored mascara. You can always count on Seventeen Magazine writing at least one article in the summer about 'Colorful lashes are hip!' and 'Want a burst of color? Try so and so's colored mascara!' Why wear colors on your lashes when they are supposed to be black?
10. What do you think about the beauty community?
I think the beauty community, both blogging and Youtube, is really fun. Apparently if you work for Youtube it's pretty competitive, but I think its nice to know that so many other people share the same hobbies as yourself.
Hope ya'll enjoyed the tag and I'll see ya next time!

Huge Makeup Haul!

Hello lovelies!
Back in December I purchased a ton of makeup, most from the drugstore, and here they are... Let's get started!

These 8 piece palettes by Wet & Wild are some of the best eyeshadows out there. The pigmentation rivals that of high-end products, and they are under $10. On the left is Petal Pusher and the compact on the right is Comfort Zone. Favorite palette? Comfort Zone. Favorite color?
The brown crease color. I bought these at Dollar General
Neutral Eyeshadow Quad, including
colors Bone, Truffle, Ice Queen & Gunmetal
Bewitching Eyeshadow Quad, including
colors Silk, In the Buff, Sage & Brown Sugar

Okay, so Ulta was having *huge* deals on Cyber Monday, and I had to participate. Basically, if you spent $40, you received a bunch of free samples, worth $100, of name brand products. I purchased these in a kit, and they are some of the better shadows I've tried from the Ulta line. These are shimmery and decently pigmented, their only down side is they tend to flake off onto my cheekbones.
Favorite palette? Neutral Eyeshadow Quad
Favorite color? The light orange in the palette on the right, 'In the Buff.'

Blush

Covergirl, Instant Cheekbones Blush,
purchased at Dollar General
NYC Color Wheel Mosaic Face
Powder, purchased at Dollar General
Yay for Blush! Awhile ago, I purchased the Covergirl Instant Cheekbones Blush. This quad came in a dark pink, a salmon color, and a very light, frosty pink. It also came with a brush, but I recommend using your own as the prepackaged brush is horrible. This is a
product I won't repurchase, as the pigmentation is lacking quality.
This blush on the right is the Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder, produced by NYC, in the tint Pink Glow. This blush is the best I've used, it layers easily, so if I'm going for a lighter look, it looks great, but I also use it when I'm going out, for that more drastic look. Don't let the orange tiles fool you, this blush is an easy-to-use pop of pink. Favorite Blush? NYC Color Wheel, hands down.
Ulta Bronzer, Sunkissed Cheek

Bronzer

NYC Color Wheel Mosaic Face Powder, in Translucent
Highlighter Glow
Its the dead of winter, *it was -9 this morning* and my cheeks are pale. Scratch that, my whole body is pale! Then I discovered the wonders of bronzer and the difference it can make. This bronzer to the right I purchased in a kit from Ulta, and it is in the shade 'Sunkissed'. Now while this is a product from the Ulta line, a line whose products is either amazing or not so amazing, 'Sunkissed' has pretty good pigmentation, and is a very shimmery powder. I also love the raised geometric edges, as my brush picks up the powder easily.

To the left is a product I've only used a few times, although I should use more often. Another product by NYC, this can be used as a highlighter, or a bronzer. This product is difficult to describe... If used lightly, the whiter tiles produce a matte highlight to built up, this powder gives off a beautiful matte coffee color, that is, a coffee with some half-and-half.
Favorite Bronzer? A difficult decision, but I gotta hand it to NYC again. Personally, I prefer matte face powders over shimmery, so that's the only reason these two aren't tied.

Lippies

Moisturizing lip glosses by L.A. Colors on the left, and Baby Lips by
Maybelline on the right
I'm pretty sure I'm a lip person, I just love buying and trying out new lip glosses, probably more so than any other beauty product. Through the month of December I acquired some really great lip glosses and one lip balm. Produced by L.A. Colors, the glosses, from left to right, are Red Alert, Tickled Pink and Rose Petals. Up next is a Colour Riche leGloss by L'Oreal in the shade 162 Blushing Berry. Last but not least is the Cherry Me tinted Baby Lips lip balm by Maybelline. I love these products, and cannot say enough good things about them. Red Alert is probably what Snow White wore, as it turns your lips bright red. Tickled Pink is the perfect pink for any complexion, Rose Petals is a beautiful brownish red, Blushing Berry is the perfect purse lip gloss because its easy to apply and the color lasts the longest, and Cherry Me is a shimmery red lip balm. The L.A. Colors lip glosses are extremely shiny, but they have the strongest pigmentation. the Colour Riche leGloss' by L'Oreal lasts a long time and tastes good, and the classic Baby Lips by Maybelline is a candy red balm in an adorable container.
Favorite Gloss? Rose Petals by L.A. Colors, the newest gloss, yet I fell in love immediately.

Eyeliner

L.A. Colors Grafix Liquid Eyeliner in Black
L.A. Colors Grafix Liquid Eyeliner in Brown
Picked up these eyeliners at Dollar General a couple days ago, and for $1 they were a great buy. They aren't the best, but they have a foam tip, which I love. Easy to use, cheap, lots of colors.
Favorite color? Probably the brown, just because I haven't ever tried a brown liquid eyeliner, and I really like how it blends with the eyeshadows.

Mascara

Since I don't have hardly any products by  L'Oreal I decided to try out the Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara, in Carbon Black. The formula is really wet compared to Great Lash, but I'm getting used to it. I love the packaging of this, the sleek gold is very attractive to the eye, and the brush reminds me of Maybelline, The Rocket mascara, which I love on my bottom lashes.

This mascara by Ulta also came in the kit I purchased on Cyber Monday, and I honestly don't have much to say about this product. The formula isn't anything special, the wand tip is ordinary, and its doesn't make my lashes huge. Just an ordinary mascara in a blue bottle.

Again, the Great Lash Mascara by Maybelline has produced yet another classic. This is the Blackest Black Great Lash Formula, with a different brush head than the old Great Lash Mascara. The old head was much more fuller, yet I almost like this one better. I felt like the old wand was so big that it didn't apply very well to my bottom lashes. This head is right in the middle and perfect, not to mention the formula and dark black make my eyes pop and look huge. Favorite mascara? Do I have to say? Obviously the Blackest Black Great Lash Mascara for the win!!

*Disclaimer*
No, I did not buy all of this product at one shopping haul, my budget doesn't allow for that, and I'm not totally crazy... Or am I?
Have a beautiful day and stay warm!
